Opening Forces and Doorset Performance
Achieving the recommended opening force for doorsets can be challenging, particularly where traditional door closers are used in combination with acoustic or smoke seals. These components are often essential to the overall performance of the doorset, but they can increase the force needed to open the door.
For this reason, reducing opening force should be considered as part of the overall doorset design. Our doorsets are developed to help minimise opening resistance wherever possible through features such as low-friction hinges, controlled manufacturing tolerances, and carefully designed smoke and acoustic seals. The selection and adjustment of the door closer also plays an important role, and efficient adjustable closers should be specified where appropriate.
In some applications, an electromagnetic hold-open device may provide an effective solution by reducing the need to overcome closer resistance during normal use. This can offer accessibility benefits, although it may not be the most practical or cost-effective option for every project.
The key is to achieve the right balance between accessibility, safety, and performance, particularly where fire, smoke, or acoustic requirements must also be met as part of the complete doorset specification.
