Overview
The new extension at Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre was developed to support up to 80 additional pupils with special educational needs, including those with the most profound and complex requirements.
The scheme delivered over 2,000m2 of additional accommodation across two storeys.
Our Role
GE Door Manufacturing worked collaboratively with the design team during the development stage, supporting both the doorset and ironmongery specification. Early engagement allowed us to:
- Help develop compliant fire doorset solutions
- Advise on ironmongery suitable for SEN environments
- Ensure accessibility requirements were fully integrated
- Align performance with safeguarding and durability needs
By working alongside the architect, Rio and main contractor Wilmott Dixon, we were able to balance technical compliance with practical usability — a critical factor in specialist education settings.
The Challenge
EN schools present unique challenges:
- Enhanced safety requirements
- Robust performance for high-use environments
- Accessibility compliance
- Suitability for pupils with complex physical and behavioural needs
- Maintaining fire integrity without compromising ease of operation
Every element must contribute to a calm, secure and supportive environment.
Our Solution
We developed a fully compliant fire doorset and ironmongery package that delivered:
- Assured fire certification
- Robust, durable doorsets suitable for intensive daily use
- Carefully selected ironmongery appropriate for SEN safeguarding
- Solutions that supported accessibility and inclusive design
The specification was tailored to ensure long-term performance while meeting the evolving needs of the school community.
