Is a tool box talk a standard part of every doorset installation, or does it happen only in certain circumstances (larger contracts, first-time installers, more complex ironmongery)?
It’s something we offer when talking to site teams and during negotiations. It’s not on all jobs, mainly for larger projects & main contractors that we (GE) are on their supply chain. They might also want a toolbox presentation to a sub contractor that hasn’t fitted our doors before.
Who from GE usually carries these out - is it yourself? or does it vary depending on the project and who's available?
Our own Carpenter is best placed to provide (Phil Evans) alongside the regional sales manager.
How does it get arranged, is it built into the project schedule from the outset, or is it something the site/contractor requests as needed closer to the install date?
As above its more as something we offer as a part of the negotiations and service we offer to contractors where we are on their supply chain for doors. Some take it and some don’t. But mainly with the likes of Willmott Dixon, Morgan Sindall, Kier.
Who on-site does the GE team typically meet with, is it the main contractor's install team directly, a site manager, or a mix depending on the project?
When ordered directly by the Main contractors then its Main contractor and the sub-contractor fitting the doors.
What does a talk usually cover in practice?
To go through the project, discuss if any complex items and what to look out for, how we deliver and what we have included as a part of our supply order and to go through our installation guide. Also, any technical guidance regarding backfilling of fire doorsets and fixing requirements.
Do you typically only do one tool box talk per project or do you sometimes revisit the site multiple times?
Usually only one tool box presentation about a week before delivery or on the first delivery.
